Air travel just got festive at Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport after Skyport switched on the lights on the island’s biggest Christmas tree.
Setting the Scene
A spokesperson said, “Local dignitaries, airport stakeholders and staff with their families came together in a special reception to mark the beginning of the holiday season. Musical entertainment was provided by violinist Tiffany Fox and singer/guitarist Pier Simons, who performed Christmas classics to set the mood. Mrs Claus and her elf made an appearance to hand out chocolates and take special photos with the younger members of the audience.

“The tree, set up before security at the airport, is an enormous 38 feet tall – approximately the length of an American school bus! – and is bedecked in 1,000 baubles and other decorations along with 26,550 Christmas lights for a total staggering weight of more than 2 metric tonnes.

“The festive scene, which includes a selfie station and seating for those waiting to check in or for transportation, will also serve as a backdrop to Skyport’s upcoming festivities. Skyport’s Great Bermuda Carol-Off will be taking on Monday, December 2, Wednesday December 4 and Thursday, December 5 and the full schedule of performances, including professional musicians, has been released as follows:
“Shortlisted schools will perform in a special Winners’ Concert on Thursday, December 12, 7PM – 8:30PM.
“Tickets for both the concert and the competition can be booked for free at www.PTIX.bm/Event/8100/Bermuda-Carol-Off. Booking isn’t mandatory but is encouraged to avoid disappointment. During the events, parking will be available for free in the short-term parking lot.
“In addition to taking in the soaring tunes of the island’s school choirs, visitors will also be able to peruse market stalls in Skyport’s Christmas vendors market. Open throughout the Carol-Off and Winners’ Concert, vendors will include Ahmani’s Cookies, Enzuri and Island Soul Pottery.”
